JSTEPPING UP, NOT STEPPING DOWN. Acceleration was in overdBloomington South Dance Team prepared for their competitive season. Facing fiercecompetition, the team ramped up the intensity during practices in hopes of perfectingtheir routines and reaching every girls dream: winning State. At such a rapid pcothers might fall behind, but the girls on the team only felt more alive. [Competitions]make the season more exciting ... you really feel the team aspect of it, explained seniorMinhwa Choi. As an upperclassman, Choi was expected to help lead the team togreatness, a responsibility she accepted with pride. As the teams spins accelerated, theirmovements became fluid and the girls worked harder than ever before, the prospect ofachieving their goal drew closer. During halftime at each South boys basketball game, the girls walked tall in their outfits to the center of the court to show the audience howthey had picked up the pace. Although only a warm-up for the competitions later in theseason, for the team, the performance was as real as could be. When you perform infront of people, it gives you a euphoric feeling, Choi said. Everything leaves your mindexcept the routine. The second trimester prompted this same sort of acceleration amongthe rest of the student body. The year was accelerating fast, and students foundthemselves working harder than ever to keep up. Seniors applied for college with theirlong resumes, underclassmen chose their classes for the next year and everyone tried tokeep up with the hustle and bustle of high school. The quickening pace of the schoolyear required students to KEEP CALM AND ACCELERATE ON. |
