Description: Tankers halt Columbus North streakCoach Caroline Richards tankerscompiled a 6-5 season record with seniors Jeannie Barr, Kathy Bruce, EmilyCampbell, Brenda Cartwright, SusieGray, and Patty Teng leading the way.The highlight of the season was thevictory over Columbus North, accordingto Coach Richards. Columbus North, aSouth Central Conference foe, had previously held an undefeated record for dualmeets during a span of 2Vfe years, untilthe Panthers upset the Bulldogs 91 -81.Richards pointed out many Southswimmers were strong in certain events.Barr and Bruce excelled in diving. Tankers strong in swimming events were LisaBrown in the 200-yd. and 500-yd. freestyle, Cartwright in the 50-yd. and 100-yd. freestyle, Sarah Fee in the 100-yd.freestyle and 100-yd. backstroke, LorHattery in the 100-yd. butterfly, PeggyHuse in the 100-yd. breaststroke, DebbieSpringer in the 100-yd. breaststroke andthe 200-yd. individual medley, and Tengin the 100-yd. breaststroke and 200-yd.individual medley.The Panthers placed fourth in theSouth Central Conference meet and finished second in the sectional meet justbehind Terre Haute South.TOP: GIRLS VARSITY SWIMMINGTEAM.
