Description: Mid-winter contest brings successThe 1976-77 Marching Pantherswere busier than ever. Under thedirection of Mr. Donald G. Trauband drum major Kim Bruner, the varsity band performed at all the homefootball games with pre-game andhalf-time shows.In November the band presentedits annual Varsity Band Spectacular with the Pompettes. At this timejuniors were awarded with theirband lyres for five semesters of participation, and seniors their bandsweaters for seven semesters. Theband also acted as a pep band, performing at games.Musicians from the band performed at Bloomington High SchoolNorth in February in the solo ensemble contest for brass, woodwinds,and percussion. The All-State Soloensemble, to which South sentseveral representatives, was held inmid-February.The spring concert in May, alsoincluding the symphonic wind ensemble and stage band, concluded theend of a successful year for theMarching Panthers.I26 Varsity Band
