fresh[men]In the 2012 season, two rookies led the LadyPanthers golf team to new heights. At first glance, freshmen CheriseOtter and Emma Fisher appearedrather unimposing. They were not towering overtheir peers, lifting cars behind theschool for weight training, jumpingover 15-foot hurdle, or running lapsaround the track in a matter ofseconds. Their talents, though veryprevalent, often went unnoticed tothe public eye.Unnoticed to the public eye, that is, until they stepped onto thegolf course. There, the two freshmengolfers, who both qualified for theIHSAA state championships asindividuals this past season, shined. The two athletes shared the role ofscoring leader on the BloomingtonSouth girls golf team that finished asingle point away from advancingto the state finals.Despite all their success, thetwo athletes never allowed theirwins to go to their heads, and theyalways remained humble. In fact, according to Fisher, it was evenintimidating to be playing againstseniors, whether they outscoredthem or not. Its like, Whoa, youve been playing for four years, and this is my first, said Fisher.Otter, who finished in a tie forthird with Fisher at the regionachampionships and defeated almostall the other seniors in the field, shared similar feelings. At first I feelnervous, said Otter, but [whenstart playing], I am just focused onwhat I need to get done.Otter and Fisher gave theSouth girls golf team a potent one-two punch that would, they hoped, allow the Panthers to succeed foryears to come.-JAMES TANFORDSHAVENMembers of the boys anagirlscross country teams comparedtheir respective overnight tripsto the New Haven Invitationalmeet on September 22.during the meet:boys cross countryfinished 2nd place out of 221 of the runners set a newpersonal record *3irls cross countryinished 2nd place out of 18 j\ of the runners set a newpersonal recordThe bonfire we have beforethe meet is way cooler thanthe guys.— sophomore Alison BurtWe paint our nails the nightbefore and write on our handsright before the meet.- sophomore AlexisLewandowskiThe boys have more funthen the girls because weplay with Pokemon stuff.— junior Kyle BurksWe have a meeting at thehotel before we go to bed.We have to keep the warm upthe same.— sophomore AnthonyWilliams5 Senior Brooke Hochstetler passes the ball to a teammateduring the Lady Panthers match against Greenwood.
