The Panthers beatBloomington North 4-1 to advance to regionals. PHOTOS BYBAILEY BOLERAlthough some may say that twois better than one, theBloomington South tennis teamproved that a team is better thantwo. The dynamic duo of juniorAlexander Jung and seniorJames Helm dominated in theirmatches and were a large factorin the teams success. Jung saidthat he was happy with his andHelms wins. I went into stateknowing we would do pretty well[because of Helm],said Jung, butJung proved very valuable in thematch as well.I thought we had a shot atbeating Carmel if they played alittle down, mentioned Helm. Thepair came close to doing just that, but narrowly missed getting a win.Having only a weekbetween these important matchesmay have been a disadvantagefor some teams, but not for thePanthers. The team practicedhard almost every single day ofthe week, said Jung, an intensitythat was essential as the teamcontinued on the road to state. The tennis team knew thatgetting to state was not a given:they had to earn it. Coach JoeDoyle said the team had workedhard all season, beat teams theyhad lost against earlier in theyear, and played a great matchagainst Valparaiso in the semi-state, beating them 3-2, to moveon to be in the final four. These accomplishments werethe product of relentless work bythe entire team, and though onlysenior Ronald Schneider made itto state, the many victories alongthe road reflected each playersdedication, including that ofSouths dangerous duo: Jung andHelm.- BAILEY BOLERqueens oftnecourie volleyball teamunderclassmen share theirlove and fondest memoriesof their seniors. When we werecollecting ad saleswith the seniors andno one would giveus anything.- sophomore RachelFarrarTeam bonding atthe lake before theseason during thesummer with theseniors was reallyfun.- sophomore BaileeConklinThe scavenger huntwith the seniors wasreally fun, especiallythe driving around, bonding, and actingcrazy.- sophomoreBrieanna BlumeMarching with [theseniors] alwayspumped me upbefore the gamesand made us closeras a team.- freshman EmilyEhman |
