On Friday,September 21, however, an edgybass guitar eclipsed the traditionalprop. Senior Maureen Mitchell, amember of the Panther Regiment,was crowned queen and proceededto rock out with the band.It was a fun juxtaposition,wearing the crown and jamming outon the bass guitar, Mitchell said.When she was announced asqueen, the football fans applaudedwhile the entire marching banderupted in cheers.Senior Markeus Farrand wasalso a crowd favorite as he won thetitle of homecoming king, anachievement he found extremelygratifying. All I could do was smilefrom excitement, he said. All ofthese years of being a nice, friendlydude have paid off.Prior to the dance, the entireFreshman girls gym classespreform their synchronizedswimming routines for agrade. They were taughtseveral different moves andthen instructed tochoreograph a routine thatshowcased those stunts.PHOTO BY LAUREN LESLIEnominated court was honoredduring the halftime of the footballgame, with Mitchell and Farrandemerging as the royal couple. Theking and queen, however, werehumble and quick to praise theircompetitors. Who wouldnt betotally excited and humbled aboutbeing elected by your peers out of abunch of awesome ladies? Mitchellsaid of the female nominees.Sophomore Olivia Cook, anunderclassman member of the court,observed the crowning and reporteda friendly atmosphere among thecandidates.
