Most students use their Student Resource Time (SRT) to study for classes, catch up on homework, orgo to peer tutoring for help. Junior Brian Beam said, I like going to peer tutoring, because it is better thannot getting anything done in SRT. When I go to peer tutoring, theres nothing that distracts me from doingmy work.Freshmen and sophomore SRT classes began with a required 20 minute reading. Having thefreshmen read worked very well, and the reading kept the students occupied so South decided to have thesophomores read as well, said Mrs. Barb Stork, assistant principal. After reading and catching up on homework, many students used their SRT time getting acquaintedwith new people. Freshman Kyla Galyan said, In SRT I got to meet new people. The first day I was in SRT,we got to sit wherever we wanted, and I sat with people that didnt just go to middle school with me. I soonrealized that I had a lot of classes with the Jackson Creek kids, and I was glad that SRT made me bond withthem. For most freshmen, SRT is completely different than anything theyve seen in middle school. Thefreedom SRT provides can be difficult for some to manage. Freshman Jade Prieboy said that he is temptedto leave school. However, few ninth graders sneak out of school. Freshmen such as Kate Emmert stay intheir classrooms, for fear of getting in trouble.Students find resource time to be a good break from the rest of the school day. Freshman AmyClark explained, I like the break that SRT gives me during the day. It breaks up the week, and makes theday go by faster.Watching the SRT show is another one of the things that students enjoy during SRT. My SRTmakes fun of the SRT show when the reporters say something funny, Emmert recalled.SRT can be used for many different types of activities. Studying, reading, and peer tutoring are onlya few of the things that can be accomplished during SRT time. The extra hour and seven minutes providesa great way for students to catch up on school, at school.fiffy^four Academics
