It took me a few matchesto make the transition fromdoubles, which I had playedthe previous year. I just triedto compete every single match.It also helped me a lot to playwith (junior) Andrew Remak inpractice everyday, Carter said.Juniors Andrew Remak andJeff Carter would gather theteam up in a circle and give amini-speech prior to eachmatch.Their little speeches got allof us pumped up for thematch. After that we wereready to go out and win,sophomore Tim Fisher saidFollowing the teamsdisappointing performance inthe Conference IndianaTournament, the coaches andplayers had a big talk aboutcompetitive spirit, and goals forthe remainder of the season.When we all had awfulshowings at Conference, weknew that we had to improve inorder to finish out the seasonstrong. After our team talks, wewent 7-1, losing only to staterunner-up Center Grove,Remak said.The team wore black shortsand black socks in theirRegional match against staterunner-up Center Grove,something the seniors from ayear ago started.The black clothes werecreative and somewhat helpful.They gave us an extra edge towin, sophomore Reid Buccisaid.After every match, the teamwould go out to dinnertogether, Buffa Louies wastheir favorite spot.Going out to eat was fun.After a match, especially theaway ones, I was usuallyhungry, and it was nice to eatwith the team, sophomoreThomas Brassell said.In the teams regular seasonand Conference IndianaTournament matches againstBloomington North, they lost 3-2 both times. In Sectional,however, the team came out ontop 4-1, knocking North out ofthe tournament.This is the first year in along time that North has had agood team. We knew that thematches against them weregoing to be tough. I didnt playin our first two matches thatwe lost.
