Description: Kusteo u% i ddle oftheIt is the first day of school—Wednesday. Sophomore Michelle Smith sitsin first period, aware that things are different this year. Five longer classesinstead of six shorter ones. The year divided into three trimesters insteadof two semesters. And then theres SRT.Upon arriving at school, Smith was told that classeswould be shortened and a Student Resource Timewould be after second period every Wednesday.Although it seemed odd at first, Smith began toenjoy SRT as the year progressed. SRT is a nice breakin the middle of the week, shortens classes and allows me to catch up onschoolwork, Smith said.Much like Smith, junior Joseph Aubin had a favorable opinion of SRT. IfSRT is used correctly, it can be an advantage. Some classmates and I wereworking on a project in class, and we were able to go to the library during SRTto finish it, Aubin said.xtckandupBrittany FloydEach SRT group was part of a block team led by one of the four assistantprincipals. Students could earn points for their blocks by participating inspirit activities, getting good grades and by attending sporting events.Blocks make things more exciting. Now Iwant to go to games to get points, Smith said.Senior Jenna Deckard had a different opinion.I think that although its meant to help, forseniors its more of a hassle. It throws your dayoff if you have early release. And every timeIm planning to go get help, theres an activity in my SRT, Deckard said. While many seniors shared Deckards feelings, most underclassmen feltthat the benefits outweighed the negative effects.Although they took some getting used to, students like Smith found thechanges to be an all around good idea.BY MELI55A McCLAIlYbreak in theiek, ikorteni1 me toickoolwork.changes 43
