Some of the mostpopular elective classeswere found in the artdepartment, such asceramics andcalligraphy.Art classes letstudents use thecreative side of theirbrains, Mr. ScottAckerson, fine arts,said.Making room for theelective of choice, while juggling a busyschedule of required courses, proved tobe a difficult task.I always was interested in stainedglass, but my schedule was always toofull until this year, senior KathyWatson said.Elective classes were not onlyenjoyable, but many also had practicalapplications in the real world.I took computer graphics because Ididnt know anything about computers,and I thought I could learn more. But I Art classes letstudents use thecreative side oftheir brain. 9 5-Mr. Scott Ackerson,fine artsended up being more creative also,junior Zac Short said.One credit in physical education wasa requirement, but several additionalphysical education classes were offeredto students who wished to keep fit.I took weightlifting because itseemed like a good wayto get up and movearound during the day,and it also kept me inshape, junior TrenityShaw said.Many electiveclasses were gearedtoward students whowished to study moreintellectual subjects.These classes rangedfrom psychology tojournalism.I thought journalism would be aninteresting class, and it kind of is. Ivelearned about how a newspaperfunctions and the basics of writing anews story. Its not exactly as easy or funas a lot of other electives, but you learn alot, senior AJ Mason said.Finding an alternative to study hallwas made easier with the variety ofelectives offered.
