-Super sleuth suite is sweet1986 was a year of change inSouths Marching Band; alongwith a change in director came achange in name, music selection and style. The new director,Robert Dubinski, came to Bloomington from a small school inNew Jersey.I think having a band director from a different state reallyhelped our band, said bandmember Laura Nelson. Easternbands use lots of different stylesand techniques that arent normally used in Indiana. By working some of these into our program, we were able to perform ashow that stood out from theothers. One of the new ideas thatDubinski decided to implementwas a themed show. He feelsthat it adds a sense of unity to ashow when it is centeredaround one distinct theme. Inthis case, a detective theme,he added. To carry out the detectivetheme, the show was entitledSuper Sleuth Suite, and themusic was comprised of songsfrom various detective movies, like James Bond films For YourEyes Only and View To AKill.According to Dubinski, theseason high points were the firstplace finishes in Bluffton, Indiana, and Owensboro, Kentucky.Between the two contests, theband received six awards: BestGeneral Effect, Best Marchingand Manuevering, Best Music,Best Color Guard, Best Percussion and First in Class.Rob Harrell noted that theseason was not only successful, but fun, too.Isnt he cute? With a perkysmile, marching band memberRob Harrell shows off his babyface during a football game.Troy Dewar and Jenny Plass trynot to pay attention as Harrellhams it up.Marching Band 57 |
