Description: in15 years ago, an Indiana University freshman, JillBehrman, tragically lost her life, much to thedismay of many Bloomington citizens. However, the shocking death started a movement andgrowth in the IU and local communities, andthus, the Jill Behrman 5K Run and Walk (JB5K)was started in her memory. The JB5K is hostedevery fall by the Student Recreational Sports| Center (SRSC) at IU to keep the memory of| Behrman alive and to bring awareness to issuesof violence in the community. Not only is the runa great way to honor Behrman, it is a fun andcreative way to exercise. All the participants get thechance to celebrate Behrmanslife in a happy, positivemanner. - senior Caroline TannThe JB5K is no ordinary run, it is a ColorRun, meaning that participants sign up to becolored from head to toe. The participants aredusted with brightly colored paint powder duringthe race to help create a fun way to raise moneyfor the Jill Behrman Emerging LeadershipScholarship. Although this race started in 2000,many South students are participating for thefirst time this year.Every October, the Indiana UniversityStudent Recreational Sports Center hosts acolor run in honor of former student JillBehrman.Freshman Faye Bryan ran not onlybecause she knew how much how much shewould enjoy it, but to support the cause. Myfriends and I are always looking for somethingfun and active to do together, so we thought thatthis would be the perfect thing, Bryan said. Shewanted to sign up for the run even more whenshe found out that all the proceeds from theevent were used to fund assault preventionworkshops for IU students. The money raisedalso funded the yearly scholarship, whichBehrmans parents used to award IU studentsstudying public health, as that was onceBehrmans major. It was a fun way to getexercise and help out the community at thesame time, Bryan said.Senior Caroline Tann heard about theevent from a friend and thought that it would benot only fun, but also beneficial and educational.I like how all the participants get the chance tocelebrate Behrmans life in such a happy, positive manner, Tann said. As a celebration oflife, the run also brings great awareness to theissue of crime in the community, and it is areminder to all to be cautious. Because of thisrace, Behrmans legacy and spirit lives oncontinuously in the IU and Bloomingtoncommunities.-GRACE NUGENTHanna Haunted Acres, located inIndianapolis, Indiana, is a hay ride, mazeand popular haunted house. Being able to do this isspecial to me because my family has been affected bybreast cancer. The walk itself is very fun, it is nice tosee all of the people who have beat breast cancertogether with those who are still fighting.«%<**>0tl.>et>-57
