<*THSwimmers 2nd in SCCFirst-year coach Sandy Searcy feels that the 1984-1985season was unexpectedlygood for the South boysswimming team. They accomplished all oftheir goals, she said. Mainlysince this was my first year ascoach our goal was to finish second in the South Central Conference, which we did. The sectionals were disappointing inrespect to time.Because Searcy was a newcoach, she had to take sometime to get to know the swimmers. Of course, there wasthe big adjustment period atthe beginning, she said. Ittook us a little time to get usedto each other. But, as theseason shows, we learned a lottogether.Searcy feels that one of theteams major strengths was itsdepth. We had a lot of depthin the breaststroke, thebackstroke, and the fly. Ofcourse, Kendall (Harnett)could swim anything. He swamthe 200 free, the 100 fly, the50 free, the 100 back, anything! . . . our mainweaknesses were the freestyleevents. Diving was anotherstrong event. Eric Gaalaaswent to state, she said.As for the teams best performance, Searcy said, Welooked good at Terre HauteSouth . . . Martinsville ... PerryMeridian. Basically Terre HauteNorth and Southport andmaybe Carmel were our onlybad meets this year.BHSSOPP.54Warren Central124109Bloomington North6179Ben Davis93107Martinsville6571Terre Haute North102100Southport7290Perry Meridian8285Terre Haute South8755Carmel11764Columbus North107117Seymour502ndSCC4thRegionalsSenior Kendall Harnett pauses after anevent in a meet this year againstSeymour.
