83 Student Council aims for major goalsBloomington High School SouthsStudent Council worked towards threemajor goals of progress during the 1982-83 school year.Student Council, sponsored by KarenFord, included 16 students, four fromeach class. Election of officers was onthe first day of the school year. Officerswere: senior Ellen Rabinowitch, president; senior Ann Georg, vice president;junior Cindy Smith, secretary; juniorRoblyn Anderson, treasurer; andsophomore Laura White,parliamentarian.One of the councils goals was to improve communications between thecouncil and South teachers. The councilalso tried to increase BHS Souths involvement in the community in the1982-83 year. Another strong goal of thecouncil was to give more to the school indifferent forms of contributions.To improve communications withBHS South teachers, Student Councildistributed copies of the minutes ofevery council meeting to all faculty.Around Christmas time StudentCouncil proved its community involvement through a canned goods drive co-sponsored by National Honor Society.The two groups carolled for donations ofcanned food. The drive was extremelysuccessful, and canned goods donatedwere given to the needy.In the 1982-83 year Student Councilsponsored many events, such asHomecoming in September and thewinter sports queen contest in January.On the final day of first semester, thefilm Seems Like Old Times was shown tothe student body through the councilssponsorship.Towards the end of February, theSouth council made two visits to otherschools. Visiting BHS North and NorthCentral High School in Indianapolis gavecouncil members an opportunity to seeother student councils that were largerbut shared some of the same dilficulties, president Ellen Rabinowitclsaid.Student Council also sponsored cdance that featured the KOGS (1982-8:senior class officers) as disc jockeys. Iraddition, students had the opportunityto purchase computer dating cards that rmatched them with the most compatibledates.
