ENGLISHAiiilAl52Fulbright Scholar Program Working toEnhance Education Around the Worldstory by: Catherine Barker and Averyl PernGaone Moloi is just one of many Fulbright Scholars working to change the fact that 72 millionchildren worldwide are not enrolled in school and 759 million adults have not received basic education. For the past four years, Bloomington has been a host city for teachers who come to learn more abouteducation in the United States to bring back to their homeland. Fulbright Scholars provide educationalresources to their home countries in order to improve their educational situations and give hope to futuregenerations.Moloi now has the chance to experience U.S. education first-hand while she observes classes here atNorth and participates in three IU courses. The first one that Im taking is on innovation and technology, and the second one is on globalizationand education reform, Moloi said. The third one is [a series of] seminars, and during the seminars welearn about the education system in the United States. Each teacher is working on a big project they get to choose themselves but that pertains to the subjectthey teach back at home.Moloi is working on a project about using technology to further English education and make it moreenjoyable for both students and teachers, so the IU classes she is taking involve technology as well aseducation reform. She hopes that her project is successful and that she and the other teacher here from Botswana canmake a difference in their education system.photo credit: Catherine Barker & Averyl Perry |
