The Spanish Club has as members those students of Bloomington High School who are now taking or have previouslytaken Spanish. The basic aim of the club was to allow students interested in the Spanish language and culture to cometogether and to enjoy each others company. It is the generalpurpose of this club to promote friendship among studentswith a common interest. During the past year, the club hadapproximately nine meetings. Movies were occasionally shown,and guests were invited to speak about living conditions andsocial customs in some of the Latin-American countries andother foreign nations. The social events of the club includeda picnic in the fall and a Christmas party in the Latin-American tradition. The members made their own pinatas for theChristmas party. These pinatas were made of papier-mache andwere filled with hard candy. The club officers for the pastyear have been as follows: Jane Van Winkle, president; LoisJohnson, vice-president; Arlene Francis, secretary-treasurer;M. H. Morris, program chairman. This clubhas many high ideals and ethical standards of selling whichit tries to maintain. Each student has worked in a local business throughout the year besides going to school. In the latterpart of October, a few students went to Indianapolis to astate meeting, held for the purpose of electing state officers.Charlene Billings, of the local club, was elected the statetreasurer. The club attended the state convention February 25at Indiana University. Students participated in various contests. Advertising, window judging, sales judging, and aspeaking contest were the principal contests. The annual Employer-Employee Appreciation Banquet was the main socialfunction of the year. It was held March 5 in the Union Building, Indiana University. Each club member took his employerto the dinner as his guest. Mr. V. W. Babb is the sponsor ofthe Distributive Education Club.
