Open your eyes!Mr. Brown--What can I do? Do you think it necessary to call a physician?Mrs. F.--No. Just send for a glass of water. 1 think she will be all right shortly.Hubert--I will attend to it immediately. (Exits.)Joe. (to Dale)--What in the world do you suppose was the matter with her?Dale--I am sure I dont know. She was sitting there calmly when all of a suddenI heard her gasp and saw that she had fainted.Professor--Oh. that can easily be explained. Her heart action was greatly abovenormal I have lately observed that that is why centipedes are often in a stupor. Inthe absence of air-currents water will suffice to bring her heart back into normal action.Dale (laughing to Joe)--The poor nut! Centipedes have turned his brain.(Enter bell-boy, Rodney Baker, with water. Dale takes water and gives Rod. atip. Exit Rod.)(Josephine and Mrs. Fuzziwigs revive Cornelia in a short time.)Cornelia (opening her eyes and staring about)--Where is he?Frank--Here I am.Cornelia-No, I mean Peter.Frank--Peter who? Is it that old lover of yours, Peter Burkhalter?Cornelia--I must see him. Joe send for writing paper.Frank--You will not see him so long as I am around.Dale (to Joe)--Well, this is a mess of affairs to have this Burkhalter turn up onthe very day that Cornelia announces her engagement.Joe--We mustnt let her see him. I supposed she had forgotten that old love affair.Cornelia--Joe. did you send for the writing paper?Joe--No. dear, it would never do for you to see him.Cornelia--I must see him. I will go and get the paper myself. (Rushes from room.)Frank--She shall not see that scoundrel. (Follows her.)Mrs. F. (throwing up her hands)--Poor Frank. I am afraid he is doomed now.Joe--What do you suppose Peters purpose was in coming back here?Professor--Human beings resemble centipedes in that they are capable of queeractions.Dale--We had better let them work out things themselves. We will only make themixup worse. Lets go back and hear the rest of the opera. (All exit.)(Enter Cornelia.)Cornelia--Well. I escaped from Frank at last. He was determined to keep me fromwriting this note. I must see Peter and I dont want Frank here. I guess this note isready to send. (Rings bell. Reads from note paper.) Dear Mr. Burkhalter: I mustsee you at once in the general rest room on the second floor. Yours, Cornelia Vos.(Enter bell boy, Harold Prow.
