Salomon to John Badolett, March 23, 1824

Description: Signed by Salomon. This letter begins with Salomon saying that while Badollet’s letters always make him happy, the most recent one was so sad that he finds himself incapable of finding a solution to Badollet’s situation, which is unspecified; he suggests that Badollet write to Gallatin and Cazenove, or even visit Gallatin, who will be back at his plantation sometime in April. He goes on to talk about politics, and reemphasizes how much he thinks a visit to Gallatin (who is very politically active) would greatly benefit Badollet. He must prepare for his journey to New Geneva in spite of the inquietude he feels, and while he is there he can visit Salomon’s wife (who Salomon left but continues to support). Salomon changes the subject to the nature of his letters, which he intends to be jovial, how far behind he is at work, and Cazenove, who is on his way to Italy with his nephew Charles from Alexandria. In addition to the above is a note, also written by Salomon, from 7th April 1824: This is a short note in which Salomon says he was interrupted before he could finish writing on March 23rd. In spite of the many things he wants to tell Badollet, he has to cut this letter short because his brain is too numb for him to write anything of substance other than his typical closing: “I am sincerely attached to you”.
