414. Howard Mansion, 1913

Description: The Howard family home in Port Fulton, Indiana (now Jeffersonville) is shown during the 1913 flood. At this time it was occupied by Edmonds J. Howard and his family. The Shipyards across the street are completely flooded and it appears that the wall around the mansion is what is protecting the home from the flood waters. To the right in the picture you can see two buildings of the Howard shipyards surrounded by water. The Victorian Mansion sits up above the road level and it is possible to see the drive curving to the right of the building. On the left are a number of smaller houses on Jackson and High Streets.
