413. Prisoners filling sandbags, 1913 Flood

Description: Prisoners from the Indiana Reformatory (formerly the Indiana Prison South) are depicted filling and placing sandbags along the railroad lines north of Clarksville and Jeffersonville during the 19193 flood. From maps, the railroad tracks were most likely around 11th and North Streets, along the northwest side of the Quadrangle. The picture shows two train tracks, the Big Four bridge in the distance. A church steeple to the right is most likely First Presbyterians tower. There are a number of guards and supervisors at the bottom right hand side of the picture with prisoners and sand bags spread across along the tracks in the distance.
