Harris-Harris v-mail

Description: Letter from John Harold Harris (1916-1987) to his wife Alice Clair Honan (1920-1986). Harris served as a U.S. Army cook in the Pacific Theatre.
June 2, 1944Dear Alice & All,Things are going along about the same. June 21st begins our winder so we are having a bit of rain. Now the weather is about like the summer in the states and will continue during the winter. Doesn’t it seem strange that we have opposite seasons. I didn’t receive mail yesterday but I am satisfied if I get some once or twice a week. That means you have to write more because I don’t receive all the letters you mail. Try this—start numbering your letters and we’ll see what percentage I receive. Here’s something else to do. Paper is hard to get and hard to keep so enclose about two sheets in all your letters that way I can answer without worrying about a paper supply. Yesterday we played chess, bridge, and hearts. There are five of us in the tent and all of them are swell fellows. On our time off we have a good time. The other tent I was in with Smith wasn’t nearly as much fun. Circumstances that happen in the army made us move. Mary must be 32 some time this month. How old we are getting to be. I haven’t heard any more news about the allies program for a few days but am sure we are doing alright. Love, Harold
