Letter from Charles J. Bonaparte to May Wright Sewall.

Description: Bonaparte apologizes for being unable to thank Mrs. Sewall personally before his train left Indianapolis. I was occupied in obtaining a suitable correction for some unauthorized and groundless statements respecting the League published in certain newspapers.Charles J. Bonaparte, a Baltimore lawyer active in reform movements, was appointed by Theodore Roosevelt to be Secretary of the Navy in 1905, then U.S. Attorney General in 1906. In 1908, he founded the investigative unit that later became the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was the grandson of Jerome Bonaparte, brother of Napoleon I.
