Your presence here was an inspiration to us.John Henry Patterson (1844-1922), industrialist, entrepreneur, and founder of the National Cash Register Company in Dayton, Ohio. Often termed a benevolent tyrant for his practice of firing employees for small infractions, he was also one of the few businessmen of his time to provide benefits for his workers. He built the first factories with floor to ceiling windows to allow in light and fresh air, and provided a dining room, gymnasium, health care, and childrens programs. |
