Wake up Station explosion, August 14, 1969, time unknown

Description: This is a digitized recording of a dictabelt, which the Indianapolis Fire Department used to record dispatch calls during the 1960s and 1970s. Following are the calls on this dictabelt: 1) Dispatcher attempts to speak to Ralph Arnold at hospital. 2) Chief asks dispatcher to find out what equipment was still as the Wake Up Station fire. 3) Dispatcher continues efforts to reach Arnold, speaks to Jack Hedges who informs him that Ralph Arnold and crew took District 5 fire truck back to 38th and Guilford. 4) Caller asks which firemen were injured, chief said not to release information. 5) Dispatcher asks District 5 truck to return to hospital. 6) Jack Hedges calls dispatcher looking for Ronnie Bowmans address. 6) Car 10 en route to General Hospital with injured fireman, probably Raymond Clegg. 7) Dispatcher informs chief that firemen have left the scene of Wake Up Station fire. 8) Caller asks how badly Ray Clegg is injured, dispatcher says his condition is listed as satisfactory and no more names can be released. 9) Caller asks if Chief Boswell was with Engine 2, he was at scene of fire waiting on car. 10) Ronald Bowman added to list of injured. 11) Butch (?) asks to speak to office, no one up there because the chief is at Wake Up Station fire scene. Dispatcher informs him firemen responded to a fire at a filling station which then exploded. 12) Caller asks who was killed, only Charlie Ends was killed, 11 firemen injured. 13) Charlie Hill called, state fire marshall asked him to help with investigation of filling station explosion, dispatcher informs him arson investigators are on the scene and Charlie asks them to stand by until he comes to connect with them. 14) Dispatcher asks car 9 to stay at scene of Wake Up Station fire until state fire marshal arrives. 15) Accident at South and Meridian, several injuries. Squad 17 sent to respond. 16) Report on female 25 years old, having miscarriage, husband took her to Community Hospital himself since no ambulances were available. 17) Joe Schmitte calls to ask if Bill or Sam were ok. Asks if 24s were at Wake Up station fire. Dispatcher notes Bills condition is unknown, dispatcher does not know what hospital he went to. 18) Caller asks to be connected to Star Station. 19) Car 9 arson investigators asks who they were supposed to be waiting for, advises they will continue to wait.
