Description: This is a digitized recording of a dictabelt, which the Indianapolis Fire Department used to record dispatch calls during the 1960s and 1970s. Following are the calls on this dictabelt: 1) Tow truck requested for a car accident at 32nd and Central. 2) Caller reports firemen trapped after Wake Up filling station explosion on E. 38th Street. Several calls requesting ambulances, first aid, and other fire units. Unknown how many firemen trapped. 3) Calls reporting injured firemen Jack Dowden and Ron Bowman being sent to General Hospital. Extent of injuries unknown. 4) More fire engines and ambulances sent to Wake Up Station fire. 6) Dispatcher calls General Hospital to advise that Ron Bowman is being sent there with unknown injuries. 7) Several calls reporting firemen known injured, heading to General Hospital. 8) Dispatcher advises that Charles Ends is being sent to General Hospital. 9) Dispatcher calls Hospital Registrar to inform them James Keith and David Grider being sent to General Hospital. 10) Mr. Zimmerman at 2327 Prospect Ave reports a in a trash barrel. 11) Caller asks if anyone is going to Dave Griders mothers home and advises that his mother is very ill and whoever tells her about Daves injuries should be tactful and kind. 12) Police car needed at Station 30, 2440 North Tibbs Avenue, for domestic issue. 13) Beurt SerVaas, Marion County Council member, wanted a report on fire explosion at Wake Up Service Station. Dispatcher informed him it happened at 38th & Guilford Avenue, near the Monon railroad tracks.
