Description: This is a digitized recording of a dictabelt, which the Indianapolis Fire Department used to record dispatch calls during the 1960s and 1970s. Following are the calls on this dictabelt recorded at 3:07 PM: 1. Woman calls to report strange popping sound and sparks coming from her electrical wiring and socket, she lives at 26 East 14th Street St. Regis Apartments apartment 604, dispatcher sends engine 5 to investigate. 2. Fire reported at 2319 Hillside from bad wiring in apartment, engine 19 dispatched. 3. Fire run report, car on fire was an Esilr Cartage at 1310 South West Street, 1954 Ford van operated by Walter Neger, wiring trouble fixed by IFD. 4. At 536 East New York people are burning mattresses behind house, woman calls expressing concern that this is dangerous. 5. Woman calls asking for location of LeHarve Street, dispatcher tells her it is from 6100-6200 North in Wayne Township. 6. Fire report, one trash fire and one tank used. 7. Woman reports lot on fire next to her home, 7423 Avalon Trail Road off of Johnson Road in North East Indianapolis. 8. Woman calls to report children burning mattress near her home with firecrackers.
