Fire, Corydon, Indiana, October 1948, damage

Description: A fire that destroyed three downtown businesses in Corydon, Indiana, in October 1948, continues to smolder. This view is taken from North Capitol Avenue facing east and shows the damage to the building that housed Websters Restaurant. Donahues Restaurant was next door and was also destroyed. Further behind the building, smoke still billows from where the offices of Sunshine Hatchery once stood on Walnut Street. Volunteer firemen from throughout Harrison County came to fight the blaze and were joined by New Albany firefighters as well. All three businesses were a total loss, but the fireman were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby homes and businesses.
