Veterans agricultural training class in dairy barn, 1948

Description: Harrison County, Indiana veterans, led by instructor Henry Wolfe, visit a local dairy farm. The men were participating in a Veterans Agricultural Training Class, a program that provided a series of on-the-farm demonstrations to promote soil conservation, proper land use, and good farming practices. This particular class was designed for those interested in remodeling and improving their own dairy barns and other buildings. They visited the dairy farms of Adolph Schuppert, Harvey Binkley, Lee Harmon, and Joseph and Harry Conrad, all of whom were in the process of changing to graded milk production. (The farm in the photo has not been identified.) This required the construction of dairy barns, milk houses and milking parlors according to recommendations of the Louisville Board of Health. Those making the tour were: Maurice Anderson, Arthur Barks, Elmer Beard, Clifford Biddle, Chester Cunningham, Charles Faith, Homer Ferree, Edward Flora, Donald Fried, Claude Grimes, Willie Hasty, Gerald Hoke, Carl Jacobs, Noel Jacobs, LeRoy Keith, Roy Liebert, Lynn Lotick, William Lopp, Roy Morgan, Stanley Miller, William Page, Charles Pindell, Orrell Sauerheber, Johnnie Stiener, and Daniel Stewart. Harold McCutchan, County Agent, and Jack Kinkade, local manager of the Corydon Cheese Plant, also made the tour.
