Ramsey Hatchery

Description: A photo of Ramsey Hatchery, Ramsey, Indiana, ca. 1940. The Hatchery was owned and operated by Arvil I. Martin (1888-1981) who was later joined by his son Robert P. Martin. The business grew into one of Harrison County’s largest commercial hatcheries and shipped chicks all over the country. It specialized in standard breeds such as Barred Plymouth Rocks, White Wyandottes, Buff Orpingtons, and Brown Leghorns. As the business evolved, its name changed over the years from Ramsey Hatchery to Martin’s Ramsey Hatchery and ultimately Martin’s Hatchery.
