Judge William A. Porter, father of Helen Porter Griffin. Judge Porter (1800-1884) and his wife Elizabeth (1803-1872) purchased the two-story brick dwelling on East Walnut Street in Corydon, Indiana, later known as the Porter-Griffin house, in 1841. Porter was a prominent lawyer, teacher, and surveyor. He and Elizabeth raised seven daughters, four of whom died of consumption between 1856 and 1860. Their daughter Helen, along with her husband Patrick Griffin, moved back into the family home following her mothers death in 1872 and continued to reside there the remainder of her life. |
