Helen Porter Griffin, postcard

Description: Portrait of Helen Porter Griffin (1844-1940) from a ca. 1908 postcard. Helen was the daughter of Judge William A. Porter and Elizabeth McClelland Porter of Corydon, Indiana. She grew up in her familys two-story, brick home near the courthouse square in Corydon and married local merchant Patrick Griffin in 1871. In 1872, Helens mother passed away, and Helen and her new husband moved back into her family home to care for her father. Helen and Patrick continued to reside in the Porter house throughout their lifetimes and raised seven children in the home - Margaret, William Maurice, Mary Jane, Olive, Annis, Helen Elizabeth, and Daniel Patrick. The house became known as the Porter-Griffin home. Helen died in 1940 at the age of 96.
