Frederick Porter Griffin, portrait

Description: A portrait of Frederick Porter Griffin as an adult. Fred Griffin (1915-2008) was the youngest child of Maurice and Charlotte Rupp Griffin, and the grandson of Patrick and Helen Porter Griffin. The Griffin family operated a dry goods store on the square in Corydon, Indiana for many years. Freds childhood home was on the square in Corydon just two doors down from his grandmothers house, the Porter-Griffin house, on East Walnut Street. After graduating from high school, Fred attended Indiana University in Bloomington and earned a degree in Business Administration. After gaining some hands-on business experience, he taught high school commercial subjects for about ten years while also working in his familys dry goods store. Fred retired from teaching in 1953 to devote his full attention to the family firm. He continued to manage the store for thirty more years until its closure in 1983.
