Yard and flower garden between Porter-Griffin home and Corydon Presbyterian Church

Description: This image shows a view of the side yard between the Corydon Presbyterian Church (left) and the Porter-Griffin House (right). A wrought iron fence is in the foreground and extends between the two buildings. In the distance is the Griffin familys flower garden with hollyhocks in full bloom. Standing at the garden edge left to right are Patrick Griffin, Helen Porter Griffin, and Mary Jane Griffin. The Porter-Griffin house was constructed in 1817 and served as the home and headquarters of Governor William A. Hendricks in the 1820s. Judge William A. Porter purchased the house in 1841. His daughter Helen was born in the house in 1844. She married Patrick Griffin in 1871, and following her mothers death in 1872, moved back into the home with her husband and resided there the remainder of her life. The house remained in the Griffin family until 1975. The Corydon Presbyterian Church was constructed just west of the Porter-Griffin house in 1906. The church was built on the original site of Judge Porters law office, which was relocated further east on the lot to accommodate the churchs construction.
