Description: |
Frederick Porter Griffin, at left, speaks with Keith Riddle of the Indiana State Museum in front of the Porter-Griffin house in 1979. Griffie, the family dog, tags along. The last member of the Griffin family to live in the two-story, brick 1817 dwelling was Daniel P. Griffin. After Dans death in 1975, the Griffin family elected to allow the State of Indiana to acquire the property as a historic house museum. The house was open to the public on a limited basis for a short time and then closed for restoration in late 1977 through 1979. The house reopened in October 1979 and was rededicated as the Governor William Hendricks Headquarters to reflect its earlier history as the residence and office of Indianas third governor. |
