Plank road tollhouse, Corydon, Indiana

Description: Photograph of what had been the plank road tollhouse in Corydon, Indiana, on what is now SR 62. The tollhouse monitored traffic on the plank toll road between Corydon and New Albany. This road eventually evolved into what is now SR 62. As one traveled east on Chestnut Street, the Corydon tollhouse stood just east of town on the north side of the road. The Corydon-New Albany Toll Road operated for nearly seventy-five years and was the last privately owned toll road in Indiana. Harrison County purchased its eleven miles of the road in 1911. Floyd County bought the east end of the road (nine miles) in 1920. The Corydon tollhouse was sold in 1923.
