Description: The file contains two documents related to the suit Peter Jones the assignee of William Jones and Toussaint Dubois , Jr., brought against Homer Johnson for failure to repay a Promissory Note for forty dollars. The Declaration or Complaint filed in the July Term 1811 for Peter Jones was written by Johnston, P.Q, his attorney. It stated that Homer Johnson in custody should render the sum of forty dollars that he unjustly detained. On February 5, 1811 at Vincennes he signed a Promissory Note for forty dollars and promised to pay it back in seven days for the value received. On the 21 st of May, 1811, Jones and Dubois signed the note over to Peter Jones. The document stated the note had not been repaid and asked for one hundred dollars in damages. On the verso side, We of the Jury find for the Plaintiff the debt in the Declaration mentioned and one dollar and ninety cents in damages. Wm Carruthers F [foreman] Also noted on the verso, Payment, Jointer, and Issue. A second document signed by Stout JPKC June 24, 1811, verified a Transcript of a Docket from his court of June 6, 1811. It listed the account of the court costs totaling $1.88. Also noted was Recognizance for appeal taken 24th June and William Dunnica as security. According to the Minute Book of the Knox County Court of Common Pleas 1811 - 1817 page 11; in the July Term 1811, Henry Ruble appeared in court and undertook for the Defendant in this cause that in case the Defendant shall be cast in this, he the said Defendant will pay and satisfy the condemnation of the court or render his body to prison in execution or that the said, Henry Ruble will do it for him.
