The plaintiff said that he provided Moore with meat, drink, lodging, washing, horse feed, stabling, and other necessary things. The plaintiff also states that at Moores request, he provided these items and services to the defendants brother-in-law, Samuel (Bycoat). It was noted in the complaint that the defendant, when later requested, refused to pay his debt to Peter Jones. A note on page 4 of the complaint signed by jury foreman Walter Wilson states that the jury found for the plaintiff $107.28 in damages. The first subpoena called for Henry Dubois, Gideon Romine, and John McClure to appear before the judges of the Knox County Circuit Court on the first Monday of March 1816 and give evidence on behalf of Daniel Moore. This subpoena, dated February 12, 1816, was witnessed and signed by court clerk Robert Buntin and executed by sheriff Benjamin V. Beckes at a cost of $1.39 1/2 cents. The second subpoena called for Gideon Romine to come before the judges of the Circuit Court on the first Monday of March 1816 and give evidence on behalf of Peter Jones against the defendant. This subpoena, dated February 12, 1816, was witnessed and signed by court clerk Robert Buntin and executed by sheriff Benjamin V. Beckes at a cost of $.46 1/2 cents. The third subpoena called for Gideon Romine to appear at the Knox County Circuit Court on the fourth Monday of May 1816 and give evidence on behalf of Peter Jones against Daniel Moore. This subpoena, dated May 11, 1816, was witnessed and signed by court clerk Robert Buntin and executed by sheriff Benjamin V. Beckes at a cost of $.46 1/2 cents. The fourth subpoena called for Henry Dubois, Gideon Romine, and John McClure to appear before the judges of the Circuit Court on the fourth Monday of May 1816 and give evidence on behalf of the defendant Moore. This subpoena, dated May 11, 1816, was witnessed and signed by court clerk Robert Buntin and executed by sheriff Benjamin V. Beckes at a cost of $1.21 1/2 cents. The fifth and final subpoena called for Benjamin J. Harrison to come before the judges of the Circuit Court on June 1, 1816 and give evidence for the defendant. This subpoena, dated June 1, 1816 was witnessed and signed by court clerk Robert Buntin and executed by sheriff Benjamin V. Beckes at a cost of $.46 1/2 cents. The first account began on May 2, 1814 and ended April 16, 1815, and totaled $176.93 3/4 cents. Items on the account included cider, beer, porter, a broken tumbler, toddy, cash, brandy, apples, boarding, wine, washing, suppers, bitters, sangria, eggnog, candy and whiskey. The second account covered April 16, 1815 to August 7, 1815 and with the balance brought forward totaled $207.50. Items on this account included boarding, suppers, breakfasts, cider, keeping a horse, wine, whiskey, punch, and washing. The next account was possibly for work that the defendant Daniel Moore did for the plaintiff Peter Jones. This account started on May 15, 1814 and ended on January 24, 1816. This account, mostly for repairing and painting chairs and other furniture, totaled $117.39. The final account was $.96 cents for a set of rollers for a washing machine and putty. The plea by the defendant states that he did not assume the debt as related by the plaintiff in his complaint. The plea was signed by General Washington Johnston. The final total on the court cost bill was $25.15. |
