The file contains the documents related to the suit the United States brought against Charles and Andre Languedoc and Charles Dudevoir for rioting. Charles Languedoc, yeoman, Andre Languedoc, yeoman and Charles Dudevoir, yeoman were all indicted by a grand jury. The indictment stated that on 12th day of May 1815 with force and arms at the Township of Vincennes they riotously and routously assaulted and gathered to disturb the peace of the people of the United State to the evil example of all others. Signed Wm. Prince, Prosecuting Attorney. On the verso side A true bill. Benjamin Beckes, foreman. Witnesses B.V. Beckes, B. I. Harrison and Thorn. Order for summons instant. Confessed and entered into recog. for good behavior all of which was done at June term. The second document was a summons for the constable of Vincennes or any township to take Charles Longdose, (Languedoc) Andrew Longdose (Languedoc) and Charles Didivore (Dudevoir) and have them before the court to answer on charges of breaking the peace. 13 May 1815 signed Wilson Lagow, JPKC. Below was written, Knox County , commands you to take the bodies of Charles and Andrew Longdoc and Charles Didvore and commit to the common jail until they may be discharged. 13 May 1815. Signed Wilson Lagow. JPKC. On the verso: agreeable to within command I have brought forth the within name persons and on the second within about to commit them but by W. Lago (Lagow) Esq. was permitted to enter into bond for their appearance at court. B. V. Beckes Sheriff KC. Warrant and commitment of Charles Langudoc, Andrew Langudoc, Charles Dudivior. The third document was appearance bond for Andrew Languedoc. Andrew Languedoc, John Bt. Languedoc, and G.W. Johnston bound themselves to the United States in the sum of three hundred dollars to ensure Andrew Languedoc would appear at June court next to be held the first Monday in June next and abide the directives of the court. Signed Wilson Lagow. The fourth document was the appearance bond for Charles Languedoc and Charles Dudevoir. Charles Languedoc, Charles Dudevoir, Pear (Pierre) LePlant and G. W. Johnston bound themselves to the United States in the sum of three hundred dollars to ensure Charles Languedoc and Charles Dudevoir would appear in court to be held in Vincennes on the first Monday in June and they would abide the sentence of the court. 13th day of May 1815, signed Wilson Lagow. According to the Minute Book of the Knox County Court of Common Pleas/Circuit Court 1811-1817 pages 153 and 156: June Term, Charles Languedoc was indicted for rioting. It was ordered that a venira do issue reble instant. On page 156: The defendants appeared in court and confessed the charges. It was ordered the Defendants pay a fine of sixteen dollars each with costs of suit and they enter into recognizance for their good behavior for six months. Each in the sum of twenty-five dollars and Jean Bt. Longlais (Languedoc) their only pledge in the sum of twenty-five dollars. |
