The second summons, dated March 20, 1816, calls for the sheriff of Knox County to secure and bring Jacob Quick before the judges of the Circuit Court on the first Monday of June 1816 and answer unto the plaintiff. This summons was witnessed and signed by court clerk Robert Buntin and executed by deputy sheriff James Jordan at a cost of $1.79. The court cost bill totaled $19.02 1/2 cents. The complaint states that Jacob Quick was indebted to William Morrison $81.23 on November 30, 1815 for merchandise sold and delivered. Quick had promised to pay the debt and the plaintiff was seeking damages of $150. The complaint was signed by General Washington Johnston. A note on the verso of the complaint by jury foreman Ebenezer Welton states that the jury found $33.23 in damages for the plaintiff.
