Description:	This file contains 1 indictment, 1 court cost bill, 3 subpoenas, and 1 plea in a case brought against Francois, a mulatto, in a case of assault and battery on Francoise (Francois) Tisdale. The indictment, from the Indiana Territory Circuit Court, March Term 1815, states that on February 4, 1815, Francois, a mulatto, late of Vincennes Township, did on February 24, 1815, assault Francoise Tisdale. The indictment was signed by William Prince, prosecuting attorney. The verso of the indictment was signed by jury foreman William Polke. The first subpoena called for Francoise Tisdale, Margrette Decarro (Deccarro), and Peter Jones to appear before the judges of the Circuit Court and give evidence for the United States. This subpoena, dated March 9, 1815, was signed by court clerk Robert Buntin and executed by sheriff Benjamin Beckes. The second subpoena called for Francoise (Francois) Tisdale and Peggy Decarro to appear on the first Monday of March 1815 and give evidence on behalf of the United States. This subpoena, dated February 25, 1815, was signed by court clerk Robert Buntin and executed by sheriff Benjamin Beckes. The third subpoena, issued March 9, 1815, called for Peter Jones, Francois (Francoise) Tisdale, and Peggy Decarro to appear and was signed by court clerk Robert Buntin and executed by sheriff Benjamin Beckes. In the plea, Francois, a mulatto, stated that he was not guilty and that Francois (Francoise) Tisdale had attacked him. The plea was signed by the defendant. On the verso of the plea jury foreman George Claypoole stated that the jury found the defendant guilty. Prosecuting Attorney William Prince also signed by verso of the plea.
