Broujette, Michelle and Ambroyey Dajenay vs. Alexy Cournoyer

Description: The file contains three documents related to the suit Michelle Broujett and Ambroise Dejenay brought against Alexy Cornnoyer and later dismissed. The first document was a promissory note written in French. On September 8, 1808, Cornnoyer made a promissory note with Broujette and Dejenay promising to pay them 120 livres or in receiptable skins at six pounds per dollar, French weight. A Summons was issued by R[Robert] Buntin, Clerk, CPKC; on September 13, 1808 for the sheriff to take Alexy Cornnoyer, so that he would appear before the Judges on the last Monday of November, 1808. He was to answer unto Broujette and Djenay on a plea of trespass for seventy dollars. On the back of the summons, This action is brought on a note of hand and bail is required for $30.00. Tax not paid. Not executed but dismissed by order of Plaintiff. Samuel Hayes, D. Sheriff. A complaint was filed at the November Term 1808 by John Rice Jones, the attorney for Broujette and Dejenay against Cornnoyer. It stated that Cornnoyer, who was attached, had signed a promissory note, owing them 120 livres and had not paid the debt. They planned to sue for damages of seventy dollars. According to the Minute Book of the Knox County Court of Common Pleas, pages 181 and 198; The case was continued and then in the July Term 1809; The Plaintiffs appeared by John Rice Jones on examination of the original writ,the writ was not executed but dismissed by order of the Plaintiffs.
