Buntin, Robert vs. Alexander Chambers 1808

Description:	The file contains the documents related to the suit Robert Buntin brought against Alexander Chamber for the failure to repay a Promissory Note written in 1808. The Promissory Note was written February 11, 1808. Alexander by his mark promised to paid Robert Buntin $220.00 for value received on or before June 1, 1808. The note was witnessed by Robert Buntin, Jr. and Peter Ruby. During the November Court Term 1808, Gen. Johnston, attorney for Robert Buntin, filed a complaint stating they would prosecute Chambers for failure to repay the note and asked for $60.00 in damages. Johnston was put in as the attorney for Buntin. A Summons was issued for Alexander Chambers to appear in court the last Monday in November to answer to the plea by Buntin. The Summons was issued by R[Robert] Buntin, Clerk CPKC on September 26, 1808. On the verso of the Summons, Bail required for amount of $200 being a note under seal. It was executed by P [Parmenas] Beckes, Sheriff. John Small posted appearance bail and $2.29 was added as court fees. November 26, 1808, Alexander Chambers and John Small posted appearance bail of $400.00 to insure Chambers would appear in court. This document was signed in the presence of Peter Jones. According to the Minute Book of the Knox County Court of Common Pleas 1807-1810; The Plaintiff appeared by his attorney, the Defendant did not appear. A motion of the Plaintiffs attorney asked for Judgment by default. It was ordered that the Plaintiff recover $200.00, $9.75 in interest, and costs and charges related to the suit. In the edges of this page R Buntin transfers Judgment to P. Beckes and delivered the deed and paper work to P. Beckes.
