Samuel Emison and John Holland, admin. of Christian Graeter deceased vs Simon Mahoe [Mahow, Maho] 1833

Description: The file contains the documents related to the suit the administrators of Christian Graeters estate brought against Simon Mahoe for debt. It includes a deposition by Simon Mahoe, a court transcript, a promissory note and a receipt to Simon Mahoe. In a depostion, Simon Mahoe states that he did not sign the promissory note produced in court and this deponent is an ignorant man neither knowing how to read or write and that if ever he signed note which he denies he must... The deposition was written by Clerk Smith and signed with the mark of Simon Mahoe. In the court transcript of February 1833, Mahoe was sued for a debt of $5.75. The transcript was signed by G.W. Johnston and filed 2-8-1833, by Clerk Smith. A summons was issued to Europe Graeter to appear in court on 2-14-1833 by Samuel Smith and executed by A.D. Scott. A fourth document was a promissory note written on June 30, 1830 to Christian Graeter for $5.75 and signed with a mark by Simon Mahow, it was witnessed by Europe Graeter. The last document was a receipt written to Simon Mahoe by the Estate of Christian Graeter for $6.00. February 4, 1833: To finding money in yard $2.00, 8 days work in garden $4.00 Total: $6.00.
