Description: Court transcript written by Robert Buntin, Clerk, on April 5, 1822. It covers the suit Gabriel Godfray brought against Hyancinthe Lasselle for failure to meet the terms of a mortgage he signed May 9, 1809. August 14, 1819, the Plaintiff sued for a writ of Scire facias to have Lasselle answer to failure to pay for property he purchased in 1809. The property contained a house and two lots. Property owners bordering the lots were: William Prince, Laurient Bazadone, Elihu Stout, Antione Marchall, and the Widow Bouche. In addition, a distillery with stills and tubs and eighty acres was included in the deed. Laselle was to have paid two thousand five hundred dollars by May 9, 1816 to the Plaintiff. The writ was witnessed by Robert Buntin, Clerk. It was executed by L Almey, DKC and read in the presences of John Collins and Nicholas Smith on August 19, 1819. The suit was continued numerous times and included a jury trial. On March 28, 1822, the jury found for the Plaintiff and assessed damages of seven hundred sixty-one dollars and thirty-six and one fourth cents. The land was to be sold to satisfy the Judgement. The Plaintiff was represented by General Washington Johnston while Moses Tabbs and Alexander Fraser represented the Defendant. Jurors: George Crock, Joseph Barton, John Dunn, David Leman, Robert Gilmore, John Robin, Archibald McNutt, John Sitzer, Israel Mead, Thomas Emison, Abraham Westfall and Obediah Patrick.
