Jonathan Conger vs John N. Seily

Description: Jonathan Conger filed a pleas of Trespass against N. Seily for sum of one hundred dollars and a Writ of capias for John N. Seily, witnessed by Pierre Gamelin May 5, 1798. The plea of trespass resulted from Conger selling Seily wares, goods and merchandise with a value of ninety one dollars and fifty cents, but Seily has yet to pay the debt. Luke Decker ordered the sheriff to take a bail of one hundred dollars. Through his attorney, Bob Hamilton, Seily stated that this action should not have brought against him since Conger owes him a greater amount than he is being sued for. The sheriff was commanded to find a jury of twelve men trial on November 8, 1798. Jurors: Etheldred Bass, Andrew Purcell, William Johnson, John Blackburn, Jacques Cardinal, Edmond Rittenhouse, Pierre Bono, Fredrick Lindsay, John Westfall, Gabriel Bollon, Paul Perry and Albertus Prince. We of the jury, find for the defendant and do further certify that the said Plaintiff is in arears to the Defendant the sum of forty-six dollars and fourty-four cents. By his attorney, Conger asked for a new trial and was granted one for Febraury 5, 1799. It was continued to May 1799. The Sheriff was ordered to assemble an new jury. Jurors: Abraham F. Snapp, Menasseh Reves, Peter Barger, Pierre Roux, Jean Baptist Coy, Laurent Eveline, Louis Deloyer, Francois Trudale, and Nicholas Dubois. We of the jury find for the Plaintiff, ten dollars and seventy cents.
