Description: A Civil War era Housewife sewing kit issued to Union soldiers. The outer case is soft leather with a purple bias. The inside of the kit would normally contain a needle, thread and a small assortment of spare material to be used in clothing repairs. This particular kit was heavily modified by its owner. The kit has leather loops on the inside to hold tools in place. 1861
