This letter dated September 20, 1977, from Robert Bushee, Indianas department athletic officer when Margaret Gisolo was playing for the Blanford Cubs, wrote to Margaret that he could not make the trip out to Arizona to see her in person, but hoped the documents he sent her would remind her of her days playing baseball in Indiana. Bushee enclosed two documents and two letters from the 1928 season when Margaret played for the Blanford Cubs. The first document is Margarets Official Form for Certificate of Eligibility for Players Participating in The American Legion Junior Baseball Competitions. The form is dated June 4, 1928 and is signed by Margaret Gisolo, G.V. Stringfellow, Rex Haskell, and Metilde Gisolo, Margarets mother. The next document is dated June 14,1928 and is the teams Official Certificate of Entry for Team to Participate. This form lists all the players for the team with their ages and hometown. The names listed are Mike Purmalis, Frank Gambaiani, Sam P. Nedowovich, Nickie Senko, Reualto Ronconi, Henry Taparo, Mike Mazura, Margaret Gisolo, John Nelson Jr., Paul Foltz, Tony Sungalia, Joe Donna, Steve Senko, and Steve Semincik. The ages listed for each of the players are most likely guesses made by James Perona. Margaret was actually 13 at the time this document was sent in and Frank Gambaiani was actually too old to play in the junior league and had to be dropped after the first game. The document is signed by James Perona, team manager, Lewis J. Lemstra, post commander, H.V. Stringfellow, and James Bianco. Bushee leaves a handwritten note in the left margin calling this document the master-sheet for the team and telling Margaret he has the individual sheets for each player if she would like copies. The next document is a letter from James Perona, team manager, to Bob Bushee. In this letter Mr. Perona asks for help in finding funds for Margarets chaperons, Mr and Mrs. Toney Gisolo, travel costs when they travel to Chicago. The last document is a reply from Bob Bushee to James Peronas previous letter. In this letter Mr.Bushee suggests that Mr. Perona take the matter up with Dan Sowers. In a handwritten note, Robert Bushee writes that Margaret may keep this letter in remembrance of him. |
