Description: |
The article written by Dan Sowers, founder, designer, and builder of American Legion Junior Baseball, recounts his part in the decision surrounding the eligibility controversy of Margaret Gisolo after her team, the Blanford Cubs, defeated Clinton in the county championship. He retells how Robert Bushee referred the protest to him and the National Americanism Commission and then he asked Kenesaw Landis, the Commissioner of Organized Baseball, to consider the protest. They both agreed that there was no rule that stated a girl could not play and ruled in favor of the Blanford Cubs who Sowers then describes go on to win the state championship. The next year the rules were changed so that only boys could participate. |
