Description: |
Catherine McGill, the daughter of the Moses Knight, who parted this life sometime in the month of April, 1948. Moses was the owner of lot number 379 in the borough of Vincennes. That Moses was unable to care for himself or his family and obsessing to have Catherine near him he pertained off a section of the lot to which he could build a dwelling for Catherine with her having a simple deed to the property under certain conditions that she sat with him during his illness and helped his family and that she paid Rachel Knight fifty dollars for the property where she lived before Moses died but she never received the deed. Catherine states that sometime in 1847, Moses mortgaged the property to one C. M. Allen for sixty five dollars. Catherine McGill files suit in the August term in 1851 against Mariam Knight, wife of Moses, Arthur McGill, Rachel McGill, Richard Carter, Mariam Carter, Ann E. Bates, Aaron H. Knight, William White, Archy Barbour, Primus Loften, Ellen Loften, Jesse Perkins, Martha Mason, Moses Booker, Elizabeth Perkins, Elousia Perkins, Joana Knight, Relevus Knight and Levy Knight over the sale of lot 379. Willis R. Revels of Marion County, Indiana, gave a deposition that he was present at the time of the agreement between Catherine McGill and Moses Knight. He states that Moses wanted Catherine to have the property as she had completed her payments of sixty dollar, but he does not know if it was ever written down and recorded. |
