Knox County court record for State of Indiana vs Mary Jane Hubbs, 1851

Description: Mary Jane Hubbs, a woman of color, is brought to court on twenty-first of February one thousand eight hundred and fifty one and accused of taking a half pound of sugar valued at twenty five cents and one shirt valued at fifty cents the whole value of seventy five cents the personal property of John Clark. The prosecuting attorney in the case was C. M. Allen. Mary Jane was arrested and put into the custody of William T. Scott, Sheriff of Knox County on February twenty-first, eight hundred and fifty seven. The Jury finds Mary guilty of petit larceny and she is ordered to go to jail for twenty four hours and she is not to be allowed to give witness in court for fifty years. Signed W. L. Ruble.
